Irisia Deathsong

The Tale of a Dragon's Fall

The Beginning

Over seven thousand years ago, an egg belonging to Bahamut and Tiamat is fused with the fragment of Azem from the 13th to see it safely be restored as the little one inside grows along side it. The Mother Crystal, Hydaelyn, was hoping to recover it from the little dragon after they hatched, but unexpectedly the dragonkin's soul fused with that of the fragment completely. Upon the little one's hatching, she was born with abnormally weak Aether and a red crest of fur upon her head and deep, dark obsidian-like scales.Years pass and she was given the name Irisia by her father, Bahamut, who she attached herself to greatly to and even idealized. She greatly valued the time she got alone with him and often tried her best to make him proud of her, which he ever was. Bahamut also took time to make sure Irisia was more that physically strong enough to take on the world she might face, as both himself and Tiamat knew of her seemingly weak Aether and inability to use magic in the slightest. This would mean that both would train her hard to be able to survive without the magic so many dragons relied on.Irisia had many sibling growing up, but out of her many siblings, Irisia had one she favored. This was her elder sister, Karrina. Unlike Irisia, Karrina was born with an overwhelming affinity to conjuration magics, leaving Irisia in awe of her powers many times. Karrina though was ever surprised by Irisia's fortitude, as her body seemed to make up for her weak magic, but it also seemed as if Irisia was always pulling power from all that was about her, an observation she would take into account later. For the time, the two knew peace. Irisia spending much time with their father and Karrina favoring time with their mother. Still, it became apparent that they were closer to one another than any of their other siblings and as time went their sisterly bond continued to grow stronger. After years of peace, war eventually found the peaceful lands of Meracydia when the Allagan Empire attacked the nation where man and dragon live in peace. Soon after the war broke out, Irisia is captured and experimented on greatly, leaving her deeply scarred, both mentally and physically. One particular scientist taking great interest in her. This scientist using her to learn all they could about the dragonkin and how to use them for their plans that they formed with the Ascians. After months of experiments, Irisia was eventually found by her sister, Karrina, and mother, Tiamat. Unsure of the survival of the two at this point, Tiamat ordered her children to take flight to a far off land and to live. Not much later after being told to leave, Bahamut meets his end at the hands of the Allagan Empire. An already traumatize Irisia struggles with the lose of her father and with it Tiamat, in her grief, listened to the voices of the Ascians and summoned the Dreadwyrm Bahamut, After the ritual, Tiamat meets her own end at the hands of false image of her once proud mate. In the end, Irisia and Karrina find themselves without the parents and Karrina decides to run with her sister before the madness takes them as well. Irisia did not handle the events well, as her trauma broke her completely, making her regress to a childish state and repressing all her painful memories. After Karrina gathered her sister enough to make the flight, the two eventually came to find the lands that would eventually be know as Ivalice and then Dalmasca in more recent times. Eventually the two found peace for a good time. Mostly just living their lives without too many outbursts of mortal conflict, but still coming to know at least a few more in these distant lands. As times goes, Karrina becomes extremely protective over Irisia and Irisia's attachment to her sister grew as well, so much so that she deeply relied on her. Eventually, Karrina pushed Irisia to the lands of the Golmore Jungle, the lands that the Rava would eventually call home, while she continued to live in the Skatay Range. In time, Karrina mastered many spells known as White Magic and even learned to change her form to that of a Veena Viera, who she eventually came to live among and even trained a several healers, but only took in one true disciple.Irisia on the other hand, made her home deep in the Mists of the Jungle, keeping herself away from the Rava Viera, but eventually came known as the Black Guardian of the Mist, as she often dealt with poachers that came into the jungle. Though she saw it as playing a harmless game with them, when in reality it was far from such.In time, Karrina visited her sister to teach her how to take upon a form that would let her mingle with others. Where as Karrina took upon that of a Veena Viera, Irisia took upon the Rava Viera with bright red hair and emerald green eyes. Regardless, due to her poor Aether control her form was not perfect and black scales covered large portions of her deeply tanned skin. Karrina, in her love for her sister, took on the same color hair as Irisia and shifted her pure white hair to a bright red color, though she kept her crystal blue eyes. With that, Irisia began interacting with both the Rava and Veena, thought not nearly as much as her sister did. Still when she visited her sister, Irisia always made and attempt to talk with others. This did not usually succeed, but one by the name of Ljotte had caught Irisia's curiosity.

Ending of a Dragon's Dance

Though peace lasted for a time, mortal wars did come and go and with them Calamities as well. Over thirty years prior to the events of the Seventh Umbra Calamity, the Garlean Empire invaded Dalmasca and in the chaos for the war many were lost. Though try as they might, the Garlean forces found Golmore Jungle and the Skatay Range difficult to take from the Viera and their allies. So much so that specialized units commanded by those they call Judges and their elite troops were called in. One of these troops was a Reaper of unprecedented power, who despite being of a young age, they could hold their own against many of the most elite members of the Empire, including Gaius van Baelsar and the Emperor himself. This Reaper was sent into the Skatay Range to hunt down a threat that was thought to be working with the Viera and was thought to be a power beast. This ultimately lead to the Reaper to finding the village that Karrina kept safe with illusions and other trick. Long had Karrina taken to being a pacifist after her time as a White Magi. She refused to fight properly and aimed only to shield her people and let them escape harms way. After the Veena had managed to flee, Karrina attempted to imprison the Reaper to halt their murderous path. She managed to do so for a time, though something unexpected happened and her bindings simply broke. This turn of events hailed the end of the peaceful dragon, becoming fatally wounded by the Reaper's scythe and left to slowly die.The Reaper then left the village to hunt the Veena that had escaped. Soon after, Irisia would find her dying sister after a strange feeling had pulled her to her. As life started to fade, Karrina used what she had left of her strength to grasp her staff one last time. With it a bright light enveloped the elegant staff and she asked her sister to take it to her disciple, Ljotte. An emotional Irisia began to cry and could only agree to her sister's final request. Soon, the once lively body of her sister began to grow colder in her arms and Karrina's soul faded from her form. As tears streamed down Irisia's face, her grief also brought back repressed memories. Those memories that she long suppressed back when her parents had died. As she clutched her head and gritted her teeth, she could feel nothing but fury fill her body. The want to repay all the wrong she suffered. Her once green eyes taking on a burning crimson color as her rage peaked and she shattered her binding that she had been in since her capture. As she slowly stood, the childish Irisia was gone and all that stood there was a dragon, that in her sorrow had been reborn as something else. Something full of rage, hate, and fury. She was a far cry from what she once was and at that moment, she wanted only her revenge upon the one that took her sister.Irisia wasted no time for her hunt, this time purely hunt for her prey and not treating like a game of tag. All those false thoughts had faded with her sister as she rushed to find the one that killed her. It did not take her long to find the Reaper.Soon after Karrina's killer found themselves smashed into the side of a mountainside with a raging Viera in their face. Burning red eyes gazed at them as they roared, her strength was not something they were used to and it took all their strength just to manage to free themselves from her grip. They noted the scales and questioned if this was the true target that they were to find. For the first time they came to question a challenge, but brushed it off as they rushed at the scaled Viera.Irisia's rage continued and only became more consuming as she pulled Aether from all places to augment herself more and with it casting her first spell, which bound the murder. Without a second thought, she drove her arm through the armor and chest of the Reaper, piercing through their heart to end their existence. Irisia's body then reacted to the death and began consuming the Aether of the Reaper and the Voidsent that they were connected to with their pact. The result of this also causing her power to grow far beyond what it once was, as she had absorbed more than just a simple soul. Irisia had take upon herself the other fragments from those that had found the Source. As she had just killed the would be Warrior of Light in her blind rage. Her own fragment she was swift to reunite the others and soon fused together with the dragon's own soul. Silence soon became what Irisia heard. Her rage had settled, but was replaced with something new. A hunger like she had never felt before, as her body had also taken to the Voidsent. This hunger grew more powerful and as it did her thoughts came to rest on all those that had wronged her and her kin. After she pulled the lifeless corpse from her arm, Irisia grabbed the scythe that was once the Reaper's and slashed upon the air, opening a rift of her own making to the Void. She looked back towards the village that was once the place her sister lived and then back to the portal. She only paused for a moment before she took her leave of the Source for a time. Now in search of a way she might become more powerful and end those that caused her all her grief. The Ascians, the Garleans, and any Allagans that might remain in this world.

A Hunt for Power

After her arrival in the Shard now known as the Void, Irisia soon encountered several lesser Voidsent, her draconic aether drawing them in like moths to a flame. Her first several hours in this place where nothing but endless combat with those hoping to steal away the eyes of the dragon, but with each foe she fell, her power only grew more and more. Eventually she stood alone in this new place with no one to challenge her. Irisia's once emerald eyes now completely blood red and from her long red hair, horns of black had grown and her scales had started to show a reddish hue to them. Irisia licked her lips as she had tasted just a touch of the power she might gain in this place and eventually take back with her to crush those that wronged her. With the thought of more out there, she began her journey to search for more powerful foes to crush to take their power for her own.In time, Irisia came to cross many Voidsent and either they ran her or they became part of her collection of aether. Her dragonic scales keeping her body safe and her strength of will and rage keeping her very much in control of herself. Soon much of what was the Void grew all the more silent, as Irisia had earned the title Devourer of the Void from those that remained in the furthest reaches. Over what would be just thirty years time in the Source was near three hundred in the Void and in this time she had consumed near all those that had faced her. As she grew more powerful, so did her hunger for those of great power and in time even the elite among the Voidsent became part of her feast. Some evaded her reach in the far of reaches of the Void. Although one that had caused her grief indirectly and in her finding this out, Irisia began her newest hunt. One for the Voidsent known as the Cloud of Darkness. One that would take her a few more years and would lead to changes in the Void, but also would lead to major ones upon the Source.

Meanwhile on the Source

Meanwhile, on the Source, much has happened since the time of Irisia's departure, the world fell into chaos as Garlemald conquered many lands, such as Dalmasca, Nagxia, Doma, and Ala Mhigo. In such events, many were displaced. Some of them driven to find those they had lost, but were hopeful of their survival in the chaos. In the face of the looming invasion, many adventures, some of those even being called Warriors of Light, eventually helped to stave off the invasion for a time and with the help of many other souls, such as those of the Circle of Knowing, helped unified Eorzea against the Garlean forces that threatened them. Despite this massive effort by so many, the Seventh Umbral Calamity unfolded. Though much of the devastation was limited due to the efforts of the leader of the Circle of Knowing, Louisoix Leveilleur, who ended the rage of the Elder Primal known as Dreadwyrm Bahamut.Five years passes since and more souls began seeking the path to become an adventurer for various reasons. Some looking for fame, others looking for adventure itself, and some looking for those lost in the chaos of all that had happened. In this time known as the Seventh Astra Era, things had settled for a time and in it adventurers looked for new adventures to be had. Though this was not a time of peace, as the Garlean Empire still pressured those of Eorzea with invasion. Until once again adventurers stood in the way and with those of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, put an end to the invasion with the finally unified Eorzean Alliance. After these events, interest turns to new mysteries such as those of the Allagan Empire and mysterious Crystal Tower that resides in Mor Dhona and all that lies with in it. Many venture in with the aid of a particularly special Miqo'te scholar and a handful of curious souls from the Garlond Ironworks. After many hard won battles, the various souls come to find a portal to the Void in the throne room of the Emperor of the Allagan's, who was some how still there in the tower after so many years. Compelled to see this to the end, the adventurous souls travel into the unknown with near no real knowledge of the dangers. They then meet with many Voidsent that have come to this place, each foe proving to be more and more challenging than the last. After felling a might beast at a magical gateway, the adventures hear a loud scream and the sounds of battle ahead. Drawn by curiosity, the group rushed forward to see what was the cause of all the sounds they had just heard moments ago. Upon their arrive, they watched as the Cloud of Darkness is fell at hands a crimson haired Viera looking figure with black wings, a large tail with spikes and gold, and matching horns upon their head. The female figure then consuming the Voidsent as her well deserved meal before glancing at those that had come into the arena of her battle. Her gaze was followed by an overwhelming pressure that presses them to the floor. She seemingly scoffing at the mortals before her and then whisking them off with another wave of forceful magic, this time almost like a black hole pulling them out of the Void, just as the corruption of the Void started to eat at some of those that had come along on the venture.

The Returning

After her venture through the Void had left her virtually no more powerful Voidsent to consume, Irisia decided it was nearing time for her to return and take her vengance. The Garleans, the Allagans, and any other that may bring harm to her kin would be her targets. Her eyes were still filled with rage and hate as the red color never faded back to those once emerald green eyes she had so long ago. Though upon her journey through this world of near endless darkness, she came to make a few allies. One was an Elezen who ended up in the Void not too long ago and they went by the name of Ava, through Irisia had taken to calling them Nightshade, a flower symbolic with witchcraft, which Ava practiced regularly. Also she had formed a pact with two concubus, Dearil and Zelda. The two pledged themselves to Irisia after Lilith fell to her and in forming their patch with Irisia, they had taken upon draconic traits, appearing to look much like Au'Ra.For a time longer, the four would live in a long abandoned castle, a reminate of the past this world once had, and in the time they would grow closer. Irisia coming to respect Ava's opinion and even taking advice from them upon matters. Lesser Voidsent were pretty much saved from Irisia wrath after Ava convinced her that it was not of her best interest to completely consume all here. Where as Dearil and Zelda would come to treat more like an older sibling, though the two were likely far older than Ava. Still, this would have to end eventually and just as all fell into order, it pretty much did.The day had come where Irisia had gathered more than enough strength to take her place back upon the Source. She was stern and cold now, a far cry from herself when she first came to this place. The Void had changed her, leaving its mark on her with new skills and abilities, ranging from long forgotten magics to the ability to manipulate aether in new ways as well. With all she had acquired, Irisia felt it was time she left. Deep within the castle, Irisia used her scythe to tear open a Void Gate. She offered her parting words to the three she would leave, but said she would return to gather them in time. And with that, she took her step through the Gate she had made.Irisia found herself in a Garlean base of operations in Dalmasca upon her arrive. It was an eyesore to her. A place made of metal and full of machines that had once ravaged these lands she had called home with her sister. Her eyes soon began to glow as Garlean Soldiers began to take notice of her. With her Scythe in hand, Irisia set to singing a song as a smile came to her lips. Soon she began her slaughter by cutting through any that raised arms against her as her singing carried throughout the whole base. Limbs were seperated from bodies and blood soon stained metal, stone, and sand alike. Just as she reached the height of her song, Irisia began to bring forth her magic, soon pulling the remains soldiers to their knees as buildings crumbled on the stress of the Gravity she had brought upon them. Bones broke and shattered as she continued her song, a lullaby from her late mother that Karrina often hummed and sang to her. Just as she ended her song, Irisia also ended her spell. Slowly she walked the ruins she had made, finding the dead all around her. Although to her surprise, a single soldier survived the encounter and the youth was full of fear. He was obviously not of Garlean birth and as she moved to him it become more clear, as he called forth a barrier to try and protect himself as he shouted out."Stay back! Stay back, Singer of Death! You, Harbinger of Darkness! Light protect me!""Singer of Death? Hmm... How about Deathsong? I do love the sound of it and the title is fitting as well. As you were so gracious to give me this new name, I shall let you live, child of man. Now run along and I worry not if you tell others of me. Not that many would believe such a tale."

Magic is not something she uses often, limiting her magic in most situations to those most dire, as it causes unnecessary destruction, especially with her very poor ability to hold back most of the time.Other than magic and exceptional strength, Deathsong has a few other abilities in her arsenal. Her shapeshifting ability is one of them, a talent she learned from her departed sister, Karrina Lightdancer. Since then Deathsong's Shapeshifting has only gotten more advanced, as her absorption of Voidsent has given her the ability to change her body in even more extreme ways, although her female Viera form is the shape that she prefers.Later, Deathsong also takes upon a fusion of Sin Eater and Voidsent after consuming the overwhelming Light of the Wardens on the First, which near killed her. It is only by the blessing of her allies that she survived and was given this form, which she despises for the longest of times until she is forced to accept it as part of herself. This form grants her the ability to heal others and also use Light based magics, both things she could not do before.Along with her advanced Shapeshifting, Irisia has picked up traits of the various Voidsent she consumed in mass. One such ability is her bite taking on the euphoric effects of the Vampiric Voidsent and her saliva has now acts as an aphrodisiac when she herself is aroused. Deathsong also has the ability to bind and restrain others with her Aether, usually taking the form of black ribbon-like tendrils.Other simple abilities are her enhance recovery speed and her inability to be intoxicated.
